Morphological characteristics

Mackerel is a very common edible fish that lives near the coasts of the Western Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. In the Chinese context, we should pay attention to the "herring", which is one of the four major domestic fishes in China. The average length of mackerel is 30-50 cm, and the longest life span can be up to 11 years. It eats plankton and the eggs laid by sturgeon, cod and herring. Mackerel is also known as "mackerel". The common names are mackerel, mackerel, blue catfish, oily fish, mackerel, and blue striped fish. Atlantic mackerel, Boston mackerel, tin-ker mackerel, Pacific mackerel, Japanese mackerel, chub mackerel, American mackerel, blue mackerel, bamboo mackerel.

Life habits

Dense schools of mackerel swim on the surface of the water, stretching for 32 kilometers (20 miles). They mainly rely on shellfish larvae.

Mackerel

Worms, roe and small fish feed on it, but it itself is the food of whales, sharks, dolphins, tuna and seabirds. In spring, mackerel migrates to the coast to lay eggs. The number of female fish laying eggs is 200,000 to 400,000. Each egg contains a small drop of oil so that they can float on the water. It takes four to six days for the eggs to hatch. The small fish grow very quickly, reaching an average body length of 5 cm (2 inches) within two months. In autumn, the mackerel swims back into the deep sea.
